Thought about going to the Notts F.A. Sunday Senior Cup final between Nuthall FC and Attenborough Cavaliers, but with goals in mind, I decided to stay with our original choice of game, hoping for a few goals to bolster the charity total. Clipstone are flying high in NCEL Division 1, whilst opponent Grismby had managed to secure only 7 points from their 32 games and are currently rock bottom of the table.  With Kev celebrating his wedding anniversary, I was on my own again. Still sticking him with the £1.50 charity cash for the six goals though!

Greeted inside the ground by Dave Paling and Brett Marshall, and it was good to meet up with good friend Richard "the Wanderer" Lane - always a pleasure to be in this gentleman's company.

Although the games first shot came with only 18 seconds on the clock, Ash Rawson's effort didn't bother visiting keeper Gareth Johnson.  It wasn't until the 25th minute that the keeper was really called into action,  Jamie Smith's header pushed away for a corner.  On the half hour, Rich Mintoff saw his drive well saved, then shortly after that,  Callum Mawby crashed a long range effort against the Grimsby bar.

Clipstone finally broke the deadlock on 37,  BLAKE OWEN slotting home from close range after he was picked out in front of goal.  60 seconds later the home side doubled their lead when a MATTY ORD speculative 22 yard shot was fumbled at his near post by Johnson and the ball crept into the back of the net. H-T 2-0

Before kick off Brett invited myself and Richard into the hospitality area for a drink and a sandwich at half time - plenty of people in there, but I don't think there were any Grimsby officials present.

With two minutes of the second half played, Borough reduced their arrears when PETER FULLER headed over everyone in the area and the ball sailed gracefully into the far corner of the net.

It took just five minutes for Clipstone to restore their two goal lead, another looping header, this time BLAKE OWEN connecting with a throw-in from the right and diverting the ball into the far corner of the net.

Smith then saw his 65th minute back-heel blocked on the line, but Clipstone added to their tally soon after when BLAKE OWEN completed his hat-trick, slamming the ball home after Jonson had dropped Mawby's corner at his feet.

Right on full-time the visitors were awarded a penalty after Rob Paling was adjudged to have handled in the area, and substitute KYLE BENSLEY made no mistake from the spot.  The NCEL site gives the goal to Fuller, but he wasn't even on the pitch after being subbed earlier in proceedings. F-T 4-2
