Heanor Town 1-0 Long Eaton Utd

Friday 15th August 2014 - kick off 7:45pm

Venue: The Town Ground, Heanor, Derbyshire

Competition: F.A. Cup Extra QR

Scorer: Ricketts (6)

Referee: Eddie Pidduck

Line-ups:

This game should have been put to bed by the home team in the first half, but a combination of poor finishing,  good goalkeeping and last ditch defending saw the Lions end the half with just a slender one goal lead.

The goal was well taken, and stemmed from neat play on the left between Courey Grantham and Paulo Piliero, the latter's cross met at the far post with a firm header from GARY RICKETTS. H-T 1-0

Great leap from Ricketts - this turned out to be the winning goal

With Heanor failing to take their first half chances, Long Eaton were still in the game, and they powered forward relentlessly in an effort to at least take the tie to a replay. They too were guilty of poor finishing though, and with the home defenders dropping further and further back, hacking the ball away time and time again, it seemed only a matter of time before United equalised. Sadly for the MFL outfit, despite their tremendous second half display, they failed to beat Ian Deakin in the Lions' net, and exit the competition at the first hurdle. F-T 1-0
