Scorers:
Stags - Fletcher (57, 85), Kieran Harrison (76), Joe Fitzpatrick (90)

Line-ups:

Rovers - McLaren, Greasley, Carberry, Linley, P McKay, Williamson, Davies, Parkin, J McKay, Wanless, Gordon. Subs: Brown, Mbuti, Mandeville, Head

Friday afternoon football! I saw this mentioned on twitter, so grabbed 1/2 day off and drove down to Clipstone to chalk up my 60th game of the season. Met Rob Waite and Stags barmy Mel Furniss inside the ground, and with Clipstone's Barry Clarke, Brett Marshall, Mick Fulton and Nigel Spalding all in attendance, one could be forgiven for thinking it was Saturday afternoon, not Friday!!

The good old days!!!! Mel, me, Rob, Adam and Kev - saying hello to Dan Westwell!

The only downside to the afternoon was seeing Stags striker Anthony Dwyer collapse in front of the far goal, and watching as he was taken away in an ambulance. Hope the youngster is ok - I'd like to wish him all the best.

Doncaster took the lead with 13 played, Davies back-heeling the ball to JORDAN LINLEY who curled a beauty past Wilson's despairing dive. H-T 0-1

Stags attack in the first half

Mansfield were on terms within 12 minutes of the re-start, DAN FLETCHER challenging for the ball with Donny keeper Jack McLaren, the Stags no. 9 winning the battle and slotting home.

On 76, the home team took the lead after Blake collected from a throw before laying the ball out to KIERAN HARRISON, who drilled it low and hard into the corner of the Donny goal.

Dwyer was tripped in the box on 78, but was foiled from the spot when McLaren stuck out a leg to send the ball high into the air and out for a corner.

Seconds later Dwyer collapsed in the box and play was held up for about 50 minutes or so, whilst he was treated on pitch by Paramedics.

A couple of minutes after play had restarted, FLETCHER received the ball near the corner of the box and curled a stunner into the top corner giving McLaren no chance. JOE FITZPATRICK side-footed home from a tight angle with barely seconds of the game left, to give the scoreline a somewhat flattering look. F-T 4-1

Massive thanks to Rob for his splendid donation to "maggie's" - cheers, buddy!!

Competition: NM Development League U21 Division

Referee:

Scorers:
AFC - Will Horton (9)
Staveley - Conor Bendall (30), Kurt Morley (45+2 pen), Ryan Watters (65)

Line-ups:

At this time of year,  mid-week fixtures become few and far between, so at times it's catch as catch can.  It was either this game or South Normanton v Shirebrook in the Derby F.A. Senior Cup.  Pleased I opted for this one - gave me a chance to spend some time with Pinxton boss Benjamin Newman, who was at this game to check out a few players. Donation to the "maggie's" charity  was very much appreciated, Ben!

The Bulls opened the scoring on 9 when right back WILL HORTON drilled a shot low and hard  past the Staveley keeper.

The equaliser came in the 30th minute, Ross Goodwin's superb run and cross from the right hammered home at the far post by CONOR BENDALL.  Staveley went in at the break with the advantage, KURTIS MORLEY converting from the spot after the Refeee awarded a penalty for a hand ball offence. H-T 1-2

With 20 minutes of the second half played, RYAN WATTERS fired the ball across the AFC goal and it somehow ended up in the back of the net. It was originally thought that the goal was going to go down as a 'keeper OG, but after clarification with the Welfare bench, it was confirmed that the goal was to be credited to Watters . F-T 1-3

Basford Utd 5-4 Dunkirk FC

Tuesday 28th October 2014 - kick off 7:49pm

Venue: Greenwich Avenue (again!), Basford, Nottingham

Competition: Midland Football League Premier Division Cup

Referee: Paul Hand

Scorers:
Basford - Hendrie (3), Webster (48 pen, 90+2 pen), Hamagou (86), Nightingale (88)
Dunkirk - Hastie (30), Atkinson (57, 75), Whalin (81)

Line-ups

Last minute decision to take in this game - good choice as it happened. Third visit to Greenwich Avenue in four days - three different home teams!

This was a belter of a game and I know I can't do it justice, so I'll just add notes on the goals and lookout for full reports from both clubs' websites.

3 mins 1-0
STUART HENDRIE cut in from the left onto his right foot and curled a neat shot across Dunkirk keeper Jake Want that nestled in the far corner of the net.

30 mins 1-1
A corner in from the left headed powerfully home in front of goal by RYAN HASTIE. H-T 1-1

48 mins 2-1
Want parried a shot from the edge of the box, and when the ball ran loose, the keeper challenged Kevin Hamagou as he raced in to pounce - the Referee adjudged the challenge was worthy of a red card and Want had to go. AARON WEBSTER fired the spot kick past stand in keeper Tom Dudley.

57 mins 2-2
With the Basford back line playing a very high line, a punt over the top saw them appealing in vain for offside as the ball was collected by DEXTER ATKINSON. The speedy striker took no notice of the appeals and carried the ball towards goal before firing it past James Fogg in the Basford goal.

75 mins 2-3
Another ball from the back caught out Martin Holt as he was put under pressure by Atkinson. The defender's attempted header back to Fogg fell way short and ATKINSON nipped in to slide the ball under the body of the keeper and into the back of net.

81 mins 2-4
A free-kick was awarded to Dunkirk some 25 yards from goal. KIERAN WHALIN drilled the ball through the defensive wall and past the keeper's dive to increase the visitors lead.

86 mins 3-4
KEVIN HAMAGOU tapped home at the far post after a ball in from the left was allowed to travel across the goal.

88 mins 4-4
TJ NIGHTINGALE side-footed home at the far post after the Dunkirk defence failed to clear their lines.

90+2 5-4
With extra time looming, Nightingale raced into the box and was tripped by Yan Yeomans. Although Dudley managed to get a hand to the WEBSTER spot kick, the ball was struck firmly enough and the remarkable Basford comeback was complete. F-T 5-4

Nottm Forest Ladies 2-1 Preston NE Ladies

Sunday 26th October - kick off 2:04pm

Venue: Greenwich Avenue, Basford, Nottingham

Competition:  F.A. Womens Premier League, Northern Division

Referee: Andy Mead

Scorers:
Forest - Andrea Bell (9), Natasha Meade (69)
Preston - Laura Walker (20 pen)

Line-ups:
Forest - Kinnerley, Howard L, Greenan, Griffin, Kennaugh, Hutsby, McKechnie, Weston, Bell, Sullivan, Meade. Subs - Foster, Moore, Howard M, Kay, Clark

North End - Brown, Stanfield, Taberner, Forshaw, Walker, Cleaver, Swarbrick, Forster, Rawcliffe, Parker, Flanagan. Subs - Charlesworth, Foster, Hutton, Nickson

Watched the game in the company of Richard Lane, Maurice McFarland and Pete Chappell - a veritable think tank of all things non-league!

Forest have had a bit of a torrid start to their 2014-15 campaign, with only a solitary point secured from their eight games played. Preston aren't faring much better - chalking up just the  one win and four draws from their first eight fixtures.

Forest took the lead in the 9th minute, ANDI BELL cutting inside from the left and curling a beauty across Preston keeper Danielle Brown, the ball bulging the inside side-netting.

The lead lasted barely 10 minutes though, LAURA WALKER hammering home from the spot after Chloe Hutsby had brought down Chelsea Flanagan inside the box. PNE ladies added a video of the penalty to their twitter feed - click the link to view the video posted on twitter H-T 1-1

Went to watch the Reds ressies at half time - they were playing on one of the outer pitches and were winning 2-1 against Coventry - a lead they kept to go top of their league. Both goals from Tara Guyler.

Plenty of effort and endeavour were shown by both teams as the second half progressed, but it was the home team who looked more dangerous going forward. The winning goal came in the 69th minute, a superb NATASHA MEADE first time chip from 20 yards that flew into the net, giving Brown in the PNE goal no chance.

Venue: Greenwich Avenue,  Basford,  Nottingham

Competition: CML South Division

Referee: Scott Spering

Assistants: Barry Polkey, Nigel Prost

Scorers: Ben Waplington (19), Aaron Evans (23), Jeremiah Anson (81), James Rigg (86)

Line-ups - no idea

After this result, new Bulls boss George Hulley can probably see what a task he has to try and get his team back to the force they were last term, when they finished third in the league, losing only 5 games thoughout the entire campaign. Although the Bulls did win comfortably at second from bottom Holbrook last week, this game against their local rivals always looked as if it would be a much sterner test, and so it proved.

Hucknall were very good defensively throughout the game, but particularly in the second half when Bulwell had the majority of possession. The Yellows also knew where the net was, although a poor display by the Bulls usually reliable keeper Scott Miles didn't help their cause.

The league table prior to the game showed that the teams were having fairly average starts to the season, and we thought that this may be a tight game with the points shared.

Great to see our friend Nigel Prost again - usually good for a laugh when he runs the line.

Although Bulwell bossed the first 10 minutes, when they managed to get behind the Town defence, they found keeper James Beddingham in good form and failed to take advantage of their early domination.

Town's Nathan Robinson, Joe Atkinson and Leon Aikman slowly began to take the game to the Bulls, but it was a neat ball from Aaron Evans on 19 that created the first goal. The striker collected the ball in midfield and played in BEN WAPLINGTON who ran at goal, side-stepped the challenge from out-rushing keeper Miles before rolling the ball into the empty net. Hucknall dominated the rest of the half, but failed to add to their solitary strike.H-T 0-1

Bulwell came out for the second half fired up, and forced Town onto the back foot. This fast paced and full on attacking play  lead to their downfall though, as the Yellows counter-attacked and EVANS was on hand to scramble the ball home from close range after Miles had fumbled a cross in from the left.

With 9 minutes to play and with Bulwell still pressing, Town broke forward and won a corner. The ball in was met with a glancing header from JEREMIAH ANSON, the sub left totally unmarked some 10 yards from goal.

Two minutes later it got even worse for the home team, this time Miles misjudging the flight of the ball when it was fired in from the left, leaving JAMES RIGG a simple task of firing home on the turn. F-T 0-4

Decent enough game, and described on the Hucknall Town forum as probably the Yellows' best game of the season so far. The Bulls are a good team and Miles is a good keeper, but everyone has off days. I'm sure they will shrug off this defeat and get their season back on track sooner rather than later.

A poor turnout for a local derby. The corresponding fixture  played on Boxing Day last year saw over 150 in attendance.

After seeing the young Lions in action at Carlton the other week where they lost 8-1, I thought there may be a few goals in this game - after all, the charity needed a bit of a boost after I was unable to take in Monday and Tuesday night's scheduled games.

Met up with my great friend and mentor Rob Waite inside the ground. Rob was on Staveley match secretary duty at this game, making the 70 mile round trip for a Thursday night U21 game really showcasing his dedication to the club.

Accompanied by his lovely wife Julie, we took up a position behind the dugouts, hurrying to take shelter as rain drove in at 45 degrees across the ground.

As at Carlton, Heanor more than held their own for the first 20 minutes or so, but the visitors gradually turned up the heat and took the lead through a KURTIS MORLEY close range effort on 24.

Morley was clean through on goal 9 minutes later, and only a last ditch desperate rugby style tackle by Lions keeper Jack Patterson foiled the striker, and being grabbed by the ankles will always bring a penalty. After picking himself up, MORLEY converted from the spot to double Staveley's lead. H-T 0-2

It took just 90 seconds from the restart for MORLEY to complete his triple, drilling past Patterson from a few yards out. Two minutes later the hitman grabbed his fourth, this time firing a stunning curling effort from the corner of the box past Patterson's despairing dive.

RYAN WALTERS fired home the fifth for Staveley on 64, but the home team managed to reduce the arrears a couple of minutes later, MATT BOWER placing the ball wide of the Staveley keeper after he took full advantage when his marker slipped on the greasy surface leaving him a clear run at goal.

WALTERS added his second on 83, taking an age to pick his spot, but when he did eventually shoot, the ball flew unerringly into the back of the net.

With two minutes remaining, CONOR BENDALL took a speculative shot from wide right, and we all thought the ball had rippled the back of the net after going out behind the goal. To our amazement, and the Staveley players delight, the ball had actually flown into the goal, rippling the inside of the net before nestling in the bottom corner. F-T 1-7

Another bad night for Heanor, but as at Carlton, they were up against a team that contained a smattering of Staveley first team players, and after the first 20 minutes were completley outclassed.

Saturday 18th October 2014 - kick off 3:04pm

Venue: Coronation Park, Chewton Street, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire

Competition: CML South Division

Referee: Martyn Fryer

Scorer: Joe Butler

Line-ups:

Truly uninspiring game. We thought Eastwood would have added some quality to their squad with Mac and Addo in charge, but it appears not to be so. Linby were not at their best, to say the least, but my, what a dull game this was. I suppose Eastwood can look at this as a big improvement from early season results, and to be fair it was only a glaring error from keeper Andy Fretwell that ultimately meant that the home team still remain pointless after nine games and nine defeats.

Before the game, Mark Storer read out a moving tribute to long time Eastwood Town supporter Ian Padley, who died so tragically recently. The players, officials and supporters all joined in a minute's round of applause before kick-off in Ian's memory.

R.I.P. Ian

Linby had a few of decent chances in the first half, but looked a little out of sorts. Eastwood had two efforts land on the roof of Luca Rocco's goal, but apart from that showed little to cause the visitors any concern.

Linby forced Fretwell into one or two decent stops, the keeper ensuring the teams went in at the break on level terms.

Linby were gifted their goal with just three minutes of the second half played. Eastwood keeper Fretwell attempted to clear the ball out of his area, but fluffed his kick and presented the ball to JOE BUTLER who took his own sweet time to get the ball under control before side-footing it into the empty net.

Great sequence shots of Butler scoring the only goal of the game

We thought that Linby would go on and add a few more, but the home team made life very difficult for their guests. Damien Mann saw his 25 yard free-kick tipped onto the bar by Fretwell, but nothing came of the resultant corner.

The next chance that Linby had to add to their solitary goal came in the 83rd minute, but when Kaylum Mitchell played Butler in on goal, the striker's goal bound shot was well blocked at his near post by Fretwell. F-T 0-1

AFC Mansfield - Saxby, Tighe, Dudley, Kitchen, Timons, D Naylor, Williams, Buxton, Rick, Haslam, Vilums.

Sold out - unsurprisingly

This localist of local derbies was never going to be a game full of flowing, passing moves, but it turned out to be a fairly decent encounter, where a draw would have probably been a fair result.

We knew this game would be well attended, so left for the Lido 15 minutes earlier than usual. The ground was buzzing when we entered, and even though we were slightly early, the programmes had all been snapped up.

As usual, the players endanger any fans hanging around the goal during their pre-match kick-in. We stopped to talk to Dave Bramwell just to the right of the goal, and I managed to volley a wayward ball back onto the playing area before it caused anyone any bodily harm - missed the one straight after though, and it got me chock in the knackers!!! Everyone nearby though it was hilarious...ha bloody ha!

Made out way to the area between the dugouts - this offers a great view and is ideal for snap-happy Kev. Posted 134 pics to facebook!

AFC showed their attacking intent right from the kick-off, and Carl Haslam tested Clipstone keeper Nick Siddons with a 20 yard effort with just three minutes played. Haslam and strike partner Dean Rick looked dangerous every time they were on the ball, but the home defence, even without the injured Richard Mintoff, stood firm and cleared well.

With 27 minutes played, Clipstone's Jake Currie tried his luck from 25 yards and forced a diving save from AFC stopper Gav Saxby, then down at the other end, Rick played in Jordan Villums who crossed to the far stick where Danny Williams rose well but could only manage to head the ball over the bar.

The visitors took a deserving lead as the half entered it's final minute, a corner in from the left was steered towards the far post, but just when it seemed the danger had been cleared, DEAN RICK turned superbly in front of goal and stabbed the loose ball home. Cue the AFC celebrations.

Dean Rick has the ball in his sights

Unfortunately for the Bulls, those celebrations didn't last too long, as Clipstone levelled more or less from the restart. When JAMIE SMITH received the ball with his back to goal some 22 yards out, there appreared to be little danger, but the big man turned on a sixpence and toe-poked a cracker straight past the despairing dive of Saxby. H-T 1-1

1-1

The second half began without Rick (a tight hamstring) and the AFC management replaced him with Joe Naylor. The first 15 minutes of the second half were a little frantic - Phil Buxton was booked for a foul on Ashley Rawson, Steve Carty cleared an AFC in-swinging corner off the line, Rawson had a shot blocked and Stuart Hill headed a Carty corner over the bar.

On 63, Mark Dudley saw his header from a Jordan Vilums corner well saved by Siddons, and a few seconds later the home keeper was called into action again, diving to collect a Danny Tighe free-kick. Siddons initially dropped the ball, but was quick to react and grab it at the second time of asking.

Ooops-a-daisy!!

Joe Naylor and Rawson seemed to get all tangled up on 71, both players ending up on the deck. Referee Adam Smith booked both players, then 5 minutes later booked Haslam when he kicked the ball towards goal after he was adjudged to have been off-side when he received it.

Joe Naylor was a tad lucky with 75 played, he clattered into Siddons, leaving the keeper in a heap. At the time, we both thought that it was challenge that warranted a yellow card, but we also both knew that as Naylor had already been booked he was not going to be carded again. Siddons wasn't able to kick a dead ball for the duration of the game.

Haslam had the ball in the Clipstone net on 80, but was deemed to have climbed on a defender to reach the header. Hard to take, because two minutes later the home team were in front. Ashley Kitchen gave away a free-kick on the left, and Rob Paling hit the set-piece into the danger area. After the ball was only partially cleared, STUART HILL fired the ball home from 10 yards. Grest finish from the centre-half.

2-1

Clipstone defender Brandon Shaw was extremely lucky five minutes later, deflecting a superb cross in from the left onto the foot of the far post. AFC piled on the pressure as the game entered it's final moments, and with the 6 yard box packed with players, both Siddons and Carnall made unbelievable goal-line blocks to foil their visitors. As the game entered the four minutes of added time, Smith had a shot well saved by Saxby's outstretched legs, and Vilums had a neat volley well saved by Siddons. F-T 2-1
