The Shiners went to the top of the EMCL table with this win, but they were made to battle for the points by a Greenwood team that is still rebuilding after losing the majority of it's players in recent weeks. Watched the game in the company of Lance Henderson and Adam Gregory - Adam's brother Sean joined us at half-time.

Greenwood dominated the early play but in the 12th minute defender Kye Hall launched Ant Fay into the air inside the box, giving Referee David Fields little option other than to award a penalty. We thought a sending off would follow, but the Referee  issued just a yellow. Shane Newton stepped up and curled the spot kick past Luke Wesley to give the home team the lead.

Lance Stimpson was pulled up by Mr. Fields for having black tape on his orange stockings. This merits a yellow apparently - although why it took so long for the official to spot this kit faux pas, only he will know. Why the player wore the tape in the first place is also a mystery - surely everyone knows this rule, even though it is a bit silly!!

It was Stimpson who levelled the scores on 29, pouncing on the loose ball after Danny Roberts completely miskicked his attempted clearance in front of goal.

Roberts went from villain to hero with 7 to go before the break, his long throw into the box hammered home by Newton after it caused all kinds of panic in the visitors' six yard box. H-T 2-1

The second half was not a spectacle, but the Greenwood keeper was forced to make several saves as the home team looked to increase their advantage - Fay had a rocket shot well saved on 50, and Newton crashed a header against the bar with 67 played.

Hall made another rash challenge on 80, and was given his second yellow and an early trip to the showers. Wesley spread himself well to block another Fay effort with his legs in the 88th minute, but there there were to be no more goals -although there was another red card shown after the final whistle - Stimpson on the receiving end. No idea why - I had already left the ground! F-T 2-1
