It was good to see so many friends at Field Mill, and great to be back at my spiritual home again. This was much better organised than the last time it was held at Manafield Town - well done to all involved - and a big thank you to Notts F.A. Chairman Malcolm Fox for the continued support of "maggie's".
Notts F.A. Chairman, Mr. Malcolm Fox
This was the Nottinghamshire Football Association's Blue Ribbon showcase game, played between teams who had already secured their respective league titles. We expected a Basford win, and after an hour or so it looked like they would stroll it - a four goal lead with Clipstone shell-shocked! But this Clipstone side are not league champions for nothing. They rallied and gave us a cracking last half hour coming back to 4-3 with three to play.
After 35 minutes, with both teams struggling to settle down and leaving us wondering where the first goal was going to come from, STUART HENDRIE received the ball 22 yards from goal and curled a spectacular effort past the despairing, grasping dive of Nick Siddons in the Clipstone goal. H-T 1-0
With just over an hour played, a pass back to Basford stopper Saul Deeney was a little under paced, and allowed CALLUM MAWBY to nip in and fire home, beginning the Clipstone come back. MAWBY added his and Clipstone's second on 75, then on 87, JOSH GIBSON fired home through a ruck of players to put the spectre of extra-time hanging over us.
As Clipstone pressed though, they were caught out at the back in the final minute, and when the ball was played out to RUBEN WIGGINS-THOMAS, the striker raced into the box before neatly curling the ball around Siddons. F-T 5-3
The impressive trophy was presented to Basford skipper Josh Thornton by Mansfield Town striker Liam Hearn, followed by the the inevitable champagne shower.

DEON MEIKLE headed Basford further in front six minutes after the restart, the defender left completely unmarked in front of goal after a free-kick was fired in from the right. Seconds later, Basford added their third thanks to a STUART HENDRIE low drive, then the no. 11 completed his personal treble on 58, firing a drive in at the far post.
