Not very often there is a local Friday night fixture to go to, so when this popped up on the radar, it seemed a crying shame not to take advantage. Unfortunately the Nottingham public seemed a little less than enthusiastic - less than 50 bothered to make the trip to the old Pelican ground.
Before kick off Bilborough were 11th in the NSL Senior table, with opponents Burton Joyce lying in 7th - there were though, 20 points separating the teams. The teams drew 2-2 last week, so we thought there may be a few goals - and the teams didn't fail us.
The home team looked very good in the early stages of the game, and were deserving of the lead given to them by LYAM WEBSTER in the 6th minute. The no. 9 was played through on goal by a defence-splitting pass from Tom Street and he made no mistake when one-on-one with the BJ keeper.
1-0
Marc Buckle headed over from a corner on 18 as the visitors tried to play their way into the game, then Nick Ivanov was slightly lucky, saving with his legs as another corner caused chaos in the home area. Bilborough broke away with 4 minutes of the first half remaining, and although Craig McMorran slipped as he wove his way into the BJ area, he somehow managed to pick out WEBSTER who gleefully rammed the ball home from 15 yards. The keeper got a hand to the shot, but couldn't keep it out of the net.
The next Burton attack saw them reduce their arrears - a neat passing move in the middle of the park ended with a stunning strike from MARC BUCKLE, the ball flying past the despairing dive of Ivanov. H-T 2-1
The scores were level on 50, thanks in the most part to a poor throw out by Ivanov. The keeper's throw landed at a Burton players feet and he quickly played in SAM BUCKLE on the edge of the box, and the no. 8 flashed the ball past Ivanov before he could react. Ashley Marshall's error on 71 was also almost a costly one - the defender lost the ball to Troy Smith and his cross found Buckle who fired just over the bar.
The winning goal on 74 was a stunning effort from SAM BUCKLE, firing home from a very acute angle after he had picked Carl Woodward's pocket and raced past the home defence, down the left wing and into area. F-T 2-3
