Shake!

We have seen our local team a few times this season, and thought that it would be a good idea to support them in this CML cup semi final at our old stomping ground, Coronation Park. We used to visit quite often in the "ontheroad" formative years and one bonus today was meeting up with one of our favourite players from those years, namely one Kelvin Mushambi, now skipper and Assistant Manager at Gedling Miners Welfare.

Mushy!!!!!

Hucknall had a couple of early chances, David Leak headed wide from a free-kick as did Johnny Hamilton from a corner, but the football on show was, in all honesty, not very good. Town were the busier team, and Hamilton and Adam Nelson had half chances as the first half dragged on.

James Beddingham

Belper rarely troubled Town keeper James Beddingham - and he must have been pleased about that, having rushed to the ground after just jetting back from Australia. Just before the break, Aaron Evans mis-kicked the ball when through on goal, and that just about summed up the first period. H-T 0-0

Scott Whittingham

Hucknall continued the second period on the front foot and after a goalmouth scramble on 51, the ball fell kindly to Nelson who cleared the bar and the stand from 6 yards out.

Over she goes!!!
Just in case you missed the ball!!!

The stalemate was broken five minutes later when a ball into the box was clipped over the despairing dive of Belper keeper Scott Whittingham by ADAM NELSON.

Nelson clips home the 1st Town goal

Belper by now were struggling to keep in the game and never looked like breaking through a resilient Hucknall back line. The introduction of prolific striker Sam Vickers didn't add anything to the United game, and they should have gone further behind after 68, but Nelson failed to direct his header from a Ben Waplington corner on target. Nelson forced another Town corner on 74, this time Waplington's ball in was met in the six yard box with a thunderous header from AARON EVANS that gave Whittingham no chance.

Evans heads home the Town 2nd

Scott Slater had a chance to halve the United deficit in the 79th minute after town had failed to clear their lines, but the centre-back fired just wide. Hucknall kept their composure for the remaining few minutes and on balance of play, were deserving winners. They will now play Clifton in the final after the All Whites defeated League Champions Mickleover Royals 3-0 at Pinxton FC. F-T 0-2
