Well, even though the footie left a lot to be desired, at least me, Kev, Richard Lane and "Bury" Paul kept ourselves entertained by trying to work as many football cliches as we could into our conversations. Needless to say, the chat did become a little strange as we used every possible cliche we could think of to help ease the pain of watching the game! I reckon Richard and Paul (both former teachers and well educated gentlemen) won hands down!!
The first half brought nothing to the table as far as quality was concerned, but the visitors did have a couple of decent efforts that were cleared off the line. The first was a terrific 20 yarder in the eighth minute from Ryan Motley that crashed off the underside of the bar before being hacked away. The linesman adjudged the ball hadn't crossed the line much to the visiting team's dismay. The other goal-line clearance came on 21 after a game of head tennis in the box ended with the ball dropping onto the line before it was again hacked away.
Motley did have the ball in the net on 27, but had taken out Nick Siddons unfairly before guiding the ball home. Clipstone's best effort of the half came from the boot of Stu Hill, his bullet shot tipped superbly over the bar by Ams keeper Mark Bower. H-T 0-0
Re-scheduled game, re-cycled programme
On the hour mark, Jamie Brown had a low drive well saved by Bower as Clipstone decided, at last, to take the game to their guests. The deadlock was finally broken in the 77th minute when the Cobras were awarded a free-kick some 22 yards from goal.
We were all debating whether Matt Austin or JAMIE SMITH would put the ball over the net and into the car park, when Austin moved the ball just a few inches changing the angle of attack, and Smith belted the ball like the proverbial rocket past the wall and past a static keeper. Well worked set piece and enough, eventually, to secure all three points and keep Clipstone one point ahead of third placed AFC Emley with still two games in hand. F-T 1-0
